The Nong Bua Lamphu Highway District, formerly known as the Nong Bua Lamphu Maintenance Office, was established by Departmental Order No. J.19/11/2546 in 2003 (B.E. 2546) and has served as the district office until the present day (2018), a total of 15 years. It was a central government agency under the Ministry of Transport, responsible for integrated provincial administration. It was assigned road routes from the Udon Thani Highway District, Khon Kaen Highway District 1, and Khon Kaen Highway District 3 (Chum Phae). It had four subordinate highway maintenance sections:
1. Nong Bua Lamphu Highway Maintenance Section 2. Non Sang Highway Maintenance Section
3. Suwannakhuha Highway Maintenance Section 4. Nong Na Kham Highway Maintenance Section
Later, on February 27, 2015, its name was changed to a Highway District according to the Ministry of Transport's announcement regarding the designation of Highway Districts. According to the Ministerial Regulation on the Division of Government Agencies, Department of Highways, Ministry of Transport, B.E. 2558 (2015):
The roads under its responsibility are located in 3 provinces:
1. Khon Kaen Province: 4 districts – Ubolratana, Phu Wiang, Nong Na Kham, and Wiang Kao – with 3 roads: Highway No. 2146, Highway No. 2133, and Highway No. 2038.
2. Udon Thani Province: 4 districts – Mueang, Nong Wua So, Kut Chap, and Ban Phue – with 3 roads: Highway No. 2134, Highway No. 2315, and Highway No. 2263.
3. Nong Bua Lamphu Province: 6 districts – Mueang, Non Sang, Si Bun Rueang, Na Klang, Na Wang, and Suwannakhuha – with 6 roads: Highway No. 210 and Highway No. 228. Highway No. 2097, Highway No. 2146, Highway No. 2352, Highway No. 2420, and Highway No. 2470.
A total of 12 highway routes and 17 control sections.
The total length is 414,669 kilometers, with a work volume of 1,769,298 units.
Currently, the Nong Bua Lamphu Highway District is located at Highway No. 210, Control Section 0202, Nong Bua Lamphu - Na Kham Hai section, at km 48+569 (right side of the road), covering an area of 25 rai, 1 ngan, and 25 square wah.
